Meditation for Everyone
Most of us are over-stimulated and over-scheduled – mentally, emotionally, and physically. Stress is very often due to our out-of-balance lifestyles and those not-so-nourishing choices we habitually make, and stress can cause many other problems. Research shows that over 80% of all doctors’ visits are due to stress-related complaints such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, allergies, confusion, and lethargy.
Yoga/Meditation has been called the perfect antidote for stress – it’s like a reset button for your mind and body and helps you to reduce stress and regain the balance that you love.
Welcome, my name is Bee Walker and I teach Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness.
You can learn to meditate. The benefits of meditation are profound, and there couldn’t be anything easier or more natural than the practice. You don’t have to change your religion, your beliefs or your diet, and you don't need any special clothing or gear. If you have the desire to learn and do it regularly, you will notice the benefits in your daily life.
Meditation is a simple practice that can have wide-ranging effects on well-being, it can help you regain the balance that you want in your life.
Numerous research studies have been done to show the effects meditation has on lowering the stress hormones cortisol and cholesterol. There are studies on the effects meditation has to help manage chronic pain, anxiety and depression. Other benefits for health and performance include improved immune function, reduced blood pressure, and enhanced cognitive functions.
Many people are intimidated by meditation and find it hard to start the practice. Some people believe that they cannot meditate because they can't sit on the floor, cross-legged, as in the traditional lotus position. I have found Meditation works just as well, when done sitting in a chair. I also hear people say they can't do it because they cannot clear their minds. I can tell you, thoughts are normal to have during your practice, in fact they are a sign that you are releasing stress. You can learn simple techniques to help your mind to focus during meditation.
Meditation strengthens your power of attention and teaches you to take a nonjudgmental attitude to distractions.
Rather than trying to “empty” your mind, the goal of meditation is to open and focus the mind. Don’t think that you aren’t meditating properly just because you have thoughts, or because you experience turbulent or unpleasant emotions. Meditation is a way of entering into the truth of each moment so that it can be lived more fully and managed more simply. Meditation won't change life experiences that you are having right now, however it will transform your approach to them.
